Evangelism
I went to an evangelism thing at the weekend with Julian Batchelor speaking. It was so totally challenging. He exposed a a few little lies about evangelism that has crept into the church by changing the truth just a tiny bit, but enough to be convincing, and enough to actually stop us from evangelising. Quite scary.
But when you realise what is the truth about evangelism and what is not, it's easy to see that our priority as local churchs needs to absolutly be evangelism. Not good works, not miricals, not worship, not prayer, not youth or students, not even kids ministry(!!!!!), but evangelism.
Evangelism, that is simply proclaiming the gospel, is our goal. The other things are extreemly important and we need to do them with excellence because they are all part of the process of drawing someone to Christ. But they are not number one.
The reason I went to this conference is because I've been very aware that it is my responsibility as a Christian to share the gospel. But I am so freakin apathetic. I've grown a wee bit in it, but all I've really been doing is sharing my faith, not the gospel.
By the way, evangelism isn't 'winning souls'. Of course we want that to happen, but if we realise that evangelism is just proclaiming the gospel then when we share with someone and they don't get saved we won't feel condemned about it.
